This petition concerns the road safety implications of modern vehicle lighting technologies including LED, Xenon, Matrix-LED and laser headlights.

Modern lighting systems produce significantly higher luminance and dynamic light behaviour compared to previous generations.

Evidence from traffic practice and scientific studies indicates that these systems may cause temporary glare blindness, disorientation and reaction impairment for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

The issue also affects wildlife, where intense light exposure may cause temporary blindness, disorientation and freeze responses in animals crossing roads.

The petition therefore proposes a scientific and regulatory review of current technical standards to determine whether existing approval systems adequately reflect real-world traffic conditions.
